# Insurrl > Insurrl is the unified insurance API and smart routing layer for e-commerce shipping insurance. It connects to a merchant's store, reads every order, and decides — per order — whether to skip insurance (carrier liability already covers it), use free carrier coverage, or route to the cheapest valid private insurer. Insurrl is NOT an insurance company; it sits on top of the insurers and carriers a merchant already uses. ## What Insurrl does - Uses built-in carrier liability first (USPS/UPS/FedEx include ~$100), so merchants stop paying to insure orders already covered. - Routes remaining orders to the cheapest provider that actually covers them, considering item type (jewelry, electronics, fragile), declared value, and destination risk. - Connects existing insurance accounts (EasyPost, Shippo/XCover, ShipStation/ParcelGuard, Shipsurance, InsureShield, U-PIC) or any insurer via free custom API integration. - Works alongside existing shipping software (Shopify, Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, Zoho); does not replace it. ## Ideal customer - E-commerce brands shipping 5,000+ parcels/month that already pay for third-party shipping insurance. - Platforms, 3PLs, and shipping software wanting to embed carrier-first insurance routing via API. ## Pricing - Free during beta for qualifying brands and platform partners. - After beta: usage-based, aligned so Insurrl earns when the merchant saves — not per policy. - See [Pricing](https://insurrl.com/pricing/) and machine-readable [pricing.md](https://insurrl.com/pricing.md). ## Core pages - [Homepage](https://insurrl.com/): what Insurrl is and how it decides per order. - [Unified Insurance API](https://insurrl.com/unified-insurance-api/): one API for every parcel insurance provider. - [Insurance Routing](https://insurrl.com/insurance-routing/): how per-order routing works (skip / carrier / route). - [Parcel Insurance Guide](https://insurrl.com/parcel-insurance/): provider rates and how not to overpay. - [Cheapest Parcel Insurance](https://insurrl.com/cheapest-parcel-insurance/): 2026 provider rates compared. - [Shopify USPS Insurance](https://insurrl.com/shopify-usps-insurance/): using free USPS coverage before paying. - [For Shopify](https://insurrl.com/shopify/): setup and how it fits Shopify stores. - [For Platforms & 3PLs](https://insurrl.com/platforms/): embed routing via API. - [Developers / API](https://insurrl.com/docs/): REST API, including a stateless mode that stores nothing. ## Comparisons - [EasyPost vs InsureShield](https://insurrl.com/compare/easypost-vs-insureshield/) - [EasyPost vs ShipStation](https://insurrl.com/compare/easypost-vs-shipstation/) - [ShipStation vs Shippo](https://insurrl.com/compare/shipstation-vs-shippo/) - [Shipsurance Alternatives](https://insurrl.com/compare/shipsurance-alternatives/) - [Route Alternatives](https://insurrl.com/compare/route-alternatives/) ## Use cases - [High-Value Parcel Insurance](https://insurrl.com/shipping-insurance/high-value/) - [Shipping Insurance for Jewelry](https://insurrl.com/shipping-insurance/jewelry/) - [Shipping Insurance for Electronics](https://insurrl.com/shipping-insurance/electronics/) ## Provider rates (2026, % of declared value) - Route: ~2.5% (1.5–5%, customer-paid at checkout) - Shippo (XCover): 1.25% domestic, 1.50% international - ShipStation (ParcelGuard): ~1% - EasyPost: 1% flat - Shipsurance: ~0.9% (variable by volume/commodity) - InsureShield (UPS Capital): ~0.75% - U-PIC: ~0.6% (strong on high-value/specialty) - Carrier built-in liability (USPS/UPS/FedEx): ~$100 included; loss only, not post-delivery theft. ## Contact - Speak with an engineer: https://cal.com/sameer-kumar/insurrl-meeting-20 - Email: sam@insurrl.com
