Quick answer

Cabrella offers all-risk shipping insurance for high-value parcels (cash, jewelry, valuable papers, precious metals, bullion, and coins) under a shipper's interest policy issued by Navigators Insurance Company, a brand of The Hartford, which the summary calls a US admitted carrier. Your limit, rates and special terms are set in your account's Coverage Guideline, and marketing cites up to $150,000 per package. If you ship without signature, cover ends at the carrier's delivery confirmation. You must give notice within 90 days of the ship date.

The insurance summary calls Navigators Insurance Company "a United States based admitted carrier". The Hartford's insurer notice lists Navigators Insurance Company with NAIC code 42307. Our review notes that a sister company, Navigators Specialty Insurance Company, is authorized only in New York, so the exact company on your policy matters. The policy is a filing-exempt marine (shipper's interest) form, and our review did not establish whether a state guaranty fund would respond. The notice also shows it authorized in all states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Does Cabrella cover porch theft?

If you choose delivery confirmation or no signature, cover ends when the carrier confirms delivery. If a signature is required but the recipient waives it, cover is void, unless you can prove you told the carrier not to allow a waiver.

“When You select "Delivery Confirmation" or no signature confirmation for delivery by any Carrier, the Carrier’s confirmation in accordance with Your selection constitutes proof of delivery and Coverage for such shipment will terminate upon delivery.”

Jewelry, watches, laptops, and phones

Parcel cover is mainly for cash, jewelry, valuable papers, precious metals, bullion and coins. Cover for these is excluded if the label, return label or packaging hints at the contents or value, even through a business name like "Diamond Depot". For freight, smartphones, tablets, TVs and game consoles are accepted on application only, and consumer electronics are sublimited to $200,000 per conveyance.

“The Property Insured is principally but not limited to cash, jewelry, valuable papers, precious metals, bullion, numismatics and all other interest in relation to the Insured’s business.”

How and when claims pay

Cabrella labels do not let you declare a higher value with the carrier. On Cabrella's own carrier accounts, Cabrella files the carrier claim for you. The insurer relies on the carrier's finding of responsibility to help substantiate a loss, and for some users the insurer's approval depends on the carrier accepting the claim.

“Cabrella does not offer the option to declare a higher value with the carrier for increased carrier liability at the time of label purchase.”

What changed recently

What we couldn't confirm

  • The full policy wording, policy number and endorsements are not public; the summary says to contact Cabrella for them.
  • Your account's Coverage Guideline (limits, rates, special terms) is behind a login, and it overrides the public terms where it applies.
  • The country tier list is published only as an image, and rates are not public.
  • Producer status: the terms say Cabrella is 'not the insurer or insurance producer', but its licenses page says it holds producer licenses in all applicable states, including California license 6013282. Our review found no statement linking the two.
  • Claims handling: the terms disclaim responsibility for processing or paying claims, but the claims page describes claims 'filed with, approved by, and paid for by CABRELLA'. Our review treats the terms as governing.
  • Proof of loss: the claims page says you 'may be asked' to sign one, while the terms say you 'must'. The terms govern.
  • Porch piracy: an electronics marketing page advertises 'coverage for delivery disputes without signature (porch pirates)', but the insurance summary ends cover at delivery confirmation when no signature is used.
  • Limits: the same electronics page says both $150,000 per package and $200,000 per parcel. Marketing cites freight cover up to $1,000,000 per conveyance, while the summary caps any one freight occurrence at $750,000.
  • Carrier decision: marketing says claim approval 'has nothing to do with the carrier', but the summary says the insurer relies on the carrier's determination of responsibility.
  • Other insurance: marketing suggests insuring value above a jeweler's block policy, but the summary excludes losses where you have separate insurance.
  • The French-language summary for Canada omits several additional coverages and exclusions found in the English version. Our review could not tell which language version governs.
  • The PSA page lists HUB International as an underwriter in Canada, but our review identifies HUB as a broker, not an insurer.
  • Shipsi: Cabrella's announcement says cover is automatic for members, but Shipsi's 2024 terms say insurance must be bought before a carrier is assigned. Shipsi's own liability is capped at $100 per delivery, with claims due within 72 hours of delivery. This is separate from Cabrella's 90-day insurance notice.
  • PSA: cover is for inbound transit to PSA only. Labels must be generated by PSA, drop-offs must be at official carrier locations, packages worth $25,000 or more must be double-boxed, and lost-package claims can be filed after 15 days (domestic) or 30 days (international).
  • Cabrella can change the insurance summary without notice and can stop selling you insurance with 14 days' written notice.
