Does Shippo (XCover) cover porch theft?

Theft after documented delivery is covered up to $1,000 per parcel, only with a police report and only if reported within 15 days of the carrier's 'delivered' scan.

“Theft of Parcel after documented delivery to the Delivery Address - $1,000 per Parcel.”

Jewelry, watches, laptops, and phones

Jewelry and watches are capped at $5,000 per parcel; parcels with over $250 of jewelry/watches need a physical-signature service with tracking and no seller advertising on the box. Laptops, LCDs and TVs are covered for loss or theft only (not damage), up to $5,000, and need a signature service. The wording has no separate rule for phones; electrical or mechanical derangement is excluded.

What it excludes

How and when claims pay

The US wording pays your claim directly and then takes over your rights against the carrier; it does not say you must claim from the carrier first, although the base master policy still contains a carrier-notice clause.

“Once We've paid Your claim, all of Your rights and remedies against other parties for Your Loss will be subrogated to us.”

Deadlines

  • Report lost, stolen or damaged parcels within 60 days of the shipped date (carrier pick-up and scan).

“Claims that are reported more than sixty (60) days after the shipped date (carrier pick up and scan).”
    Shippo / XCover — CNA master policy and endorsements (53 pages) · PDF p.38, Endt 1 s.8(h)
  • If the carrier marked the parcel 'delivered' but it never arrived, file within 15 days of the carrier-marked delivery date.

“If Your claim for a Parcel marked as delivered by the carrier but not received at the Delivery Address is not submitted within 15 days of the carrier-marked delivery date.”

  • A parcel counts as lost if the carrier declares it lost, or if there is no movement or delivery within 30 days of the ship date (60 days for international).

“for which there has been no movement or delivery within 30 calendar days of the shipped date for domestic shipments, or 60 calendar days for international shipments.”

  • If a parcel you were paid for later arrives, you must return the claim payment within 15 days.

“If you've received payment for a Lost Parcel and it's subsequently delivered, You must return the approved claim amount to Us within 15 days.”

Payment time

Not stated in the policy. The master policy's 30-day payment clause is deleted by Endorsement 1. Shippo's help page says XCover 'aims to resolve 95% of claims within 3 days of filing' (a target, not a contract term).

“All claims payable under this policy shall be paid within thirty days after the Company receives satisfactory proof of loss”

What we couldn't confirm

  • The individual Certificate of Insurance (which can set a lower limit) is account-specific and not held.
  • Endorsements named in the Declarations (for example Gift Cards In Transit and Cash In Transit) are not attached to the 53-page PDF and were not reviewed.
  • Whether a given Shippo account is placed on this master policy was not verified.
  • Theft sublimit wording differs. The US wording applies the $1,000 limit to 'Theft of Parcel after documented delivery'. The master endorsement lists 'Theft of Parcel $1,000.00 USD' with no delivery qualifier, so it could be read as capping all theft at $1,000. Our review does not resolve this.
  • 'Transit' ends at different points. The US wording says it ends on documented delivery to the delivery address; Endorsement 1 to the master policy says it ends when the intended customer receives the items, and Endorsement 1 overrides the master policy on conflicts.
  • The US wording calls itself both 'a contract between You and us' and 'a summary of insurance for information only and isn't Your policy', and refers to the master policy for full details.
  • The base master policy (Clause 59) still requires carrier claim letters to accompany claims. Endorsement 1 does not delete it, and the US consumer wording does not mention it.
  • Start dates use different triggers. The master attaches to shipments made on or after 12:01AM 07/30/2026; the Shippo US Robust Total Shipping Protection applies to purchases on or after 12:00pm EST 07/30/2026.
  • Shippo help pages still say US terms were updated 'effective March 1, 2024' and link the superseded SHIPPV04 wording. They also say 'Perishable items, except wine' and '$250 or more' for jewelry signatures. The current US wording has no wine carve-out and says 'over $250'.
  • The price comes from a Shippo help page, not the policy. The master says 'Rate: Varies by Commission Level'.
  • Endorsement 5 treats the same commodity list as 'unapproved' (needing underwriter approval), while Endorsement 1 s.4 excludes it outright for domestic parcels. Endorsement 1 governs on conflict.
  • Governing law differs: the master says US maritime law, then New York; Endorsement 1 and the Shippo US Robust Total Shipping Protection say Illinois. Endorsement 1 governs on conflict.
  • Shippo's non-US wording (the Total Shipping Protection (Shippo non-US wording), policy code SHPROW01) is underwritten by Berkley Insurance Company (Singapore Branch). It sets the porch-piracy sublimit on the certificate and applies proportional underinsurance. It is not the US program described here.
